Sunday, June 16th was a night of major award shockers. Shockers include Bradford Anderson losing in a TIE to the non-predicted Billy Miller (Y&R) and Scott Clifton (B&B). Anderson was considered a lock for his emotionally powerful scenes with Maxie and was predicted to win from the start. Another shocker included Heather Tom winning for Lead Actress and defeating two much-deserved veterans. Even though Tom was considered a lock, Peggy McCay (DAYS) was very well-deserved to win for her groundbreaking Alzheimer's storyline. Also well-deserved was Susan Flannery (B&B) for her character's heart-wrenching death that left many, including me, in awe of her performance. Other minor shockers include Jason Thompson losing for lead actor for his outstanding post-Robin's death scenes, the 29-year-old, 2-time-younger actress winner, Julie Marie Berman (GH) defeating much-deserved veteran Katherine Kelly Lang for the supporting actress Emmy. Berman's scenes were very strong and powerful, though, and she shared them her onscreen father, and 7-time-Emmy-winner, Anthony Geary. The last minor shocker was the much-deserved and never-before-nominated, Kristen Alderson winning for the role of Starr Manning on GH, after 14 years of playing Starr and never being nominated, and defeating the also much-deserved Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (B&B). Other shockers included the well-deserved, One Life to Live losing to B&B for the Writing Team Award and General Hospital also losing to B&B for the Directing Team Award, despite their awesome on-location submission reel. BUT, the biggest shocker came in the last 2 minutes over the already 40-minute overran Emmy telecast, when the NBC sudser, Days of our Lives shockingly took home the big award of the night, Outstanding Drama Series. The winner of the big award usually excels in all three categories: writing, acting, and directing. However, DAYS was not even nominated for Outstanding Writing Team and was only nominated in 3 out of the 6 acting categories, winning only 1 for Outstanding Younger Actor - Chandler Massey, which was not a surprise and was long-forecasted. However, DAYS' submission reel for Outstanding Drama Series was the infamous DAYSaster umbrella storyline, which also helped usher out most of the actors fired in DAYS' 2012 Mass Cast Exodus. The DAYSaster story was well received, and full of romance, mystery, action, suspense, and adventure, all ingredients needed for a great soap opera plot. Anyways, below is a full list of winners who took home Emmy gold on Sunday Night and next to the winner is a simple "Right" or "Wrong" if the winner was correctly predicted by SoapView. OH, and DO NOT even get us started on the HORRIBLE production & direction of the award show, and ESPECIALLY those God-Awful hosts!
