Well, SoapViewers, here we go! We will start a new format for our 2013 Emmy Predictions today. Round 1 will last from May 2 - 16., and will center on the "Big 3" categories. Round 2 will last from May 17 - 31 and will center on the acting categories. The last round, Round 3, probably our most definite one yet, will last from June 1 - 15 and will be an overall analysis of every single category. The Emmy Ceremony will then be held on June 16, on HLN. Saddle up and get ready for some Soap Editor Emmy Predix! Don't forget to hit the comments below for your predictions and what YOU think!
NOTE: For each category, we will give a breakdown/analysis of the nominees, and then we will choose who is most [likely] to win. Sometimes there are ties/tossups. Remember, this Round 1 - extremely preliminary.
OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
All 5 soaps that aired in 2012 are nominated - OLTL, Y&R, DAYS, GH, and B&B. DAYS and Y&R are total wildcards right now and can be thrown out right now. But, since this IS Round 1, we'll keep them in the mix. The other 3, OLTL, GH and B&B are the most likely, with B&B having a slight edge. If the academy is sentimental, they'll pick OLTL, even though OLTL does rightfully deserve it for its stunning last 2 episodes. Also, if they want heartfelt sendoffs and tissue boxes, then they'll pick B&B. B&B submitted 4 episodes (due to the show lasting 30 minutes long). The first 2 were Stephanie Forrester's sendoff party, and the last 2 were REAL tearjerkers, when the Forrester Fashion Matriarch succumbed to a lengthy battle of Lung Cancer in her once-nemesis, Brooke Logan's, arms. If they want mystery, suspense, and action then they'll go for GH. GH submitted 2 episodes - the first being the high-octane June 1st episode of the Sam/Tea baby switch, directed by stellar showrunner, Frank Valentini, himself. The episode also included the doozy Heather, a worried Todd, and much more. The second GH episode was even better. The September 11th episode of Jerry Jacks terrorizing the people of Port Charles by damaging the water supply. Most of the episode was on-location, a big score and featured DROVES of drama. John McBain rushed to the save the town, while Jason Morgan murdered Ewan Keenan, and Sonny Corinthos and Shawn Butler rushed to save Alexis from psychopath Jerry. Definitely also high-octane and full of suspense, mystery, action, and adventure. The second episode also helped usher GH into its new timeslot at 2:00PM EST. Honestly, it all depends on what they're looking for, while most of us die-hard soap fans want to think that OLTL could very well snag this, being its only second win in the category, but the truth is, it's going to either B&B or GH. Although, you may never know, because it could always be a shock.
WHO SHOULD WIN: One Life to Live
WHO WILL WIN: General Hospital / The Bold and the Beautiful
OUTSTANDING WRITING
Well, we are still reeling from the shock in this category last year - Days of our Lives winning Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series. Now, was it REALLY a shock? No, because Marlene McPherson and Darrell Ray Thomas, Jr. worked true wonders on DAYS and we're also reeling from their firing. The REAL shock was that within 39 years of Daytime Emmy Awards, DAYS had not won a single Emmy Award for its writing. This year, DAYS has not even been nominated. B&B, OLTL, GH and Y&R are all up for grabs. OLTL is the real winner here, considering its awesome writing in its last 2 episodes it submitted, but when it comes down to probability, it's a rat race between GH or B&B.
Y&R is already out of the question, unless they submitted Josh Griffith's episodes.
