DARK HORSES & MIX-UPS
The 41st Annual Daytime Emmys air next Sunday... Yes, next Sunday the 22nd. And in case you didn't know already, they will be live-streaming online on the NATAS website. The webcast was NATAS's last resort, as they unfortunately could not find a television home for the ceremony [this year]. However, NATAS has already announced they have multiple television outlets lined up for possible televising of next year's award ceremony. Supposedly, the newly-rebranded TVGN is a current frontrunner to air the 42nd Emmys. But, anyways, this is usually right around the time that final predictions are being made, but not so much this year. Dark horses and ties and split minded categories are the thing this year. One month ago, it seemed it was clear-cut who would win. Not so much at this point, with some categories being split-opinionated that could go either way, (i.e. Supporting Actor, Supporting Actress, Younger Actor, Younger Actor).
I'll post my final predictions (ALL CATEGORIES) next Tuesday, June 17.
LEAD ACTOR
Billy Miller (Young & Restless) for his first win the category. Nothing else.
LEAD ACTRESS
Heather Tom (Bold & Beautiful) for her 6th statuette. Holding out for Eileen Davidson, but we'll see.
**Shall Tom win, she'll have more Daytime Emmys than any other soap actress.
SUPPORTING ACTING
This is where it gets difficult. Scott Clifton (Bold & Beautiful) could go for a second consecutive in the category. It could tie, like last year, and go to both Clifton and the long-overdue Bradford Anderon (General Hospital). Bradford was the winner from the start, but Clifton's reel recently started to make headway. I'm going for a hopeful TIE, a la last year.
Elizabeth Hendrickson submitted quite a meaty, emotionally-heavy reel and in return earned herself only her second Daytime Emmy nomination. Jane Elliot delivered quite a emotionally-heavy reel, but in a much different fashion. I'm going with Jane, because I feel Emmy voters might appeal to her different take of emotions in her reel, as opposed to the darkness and the crying and the weeping in Hendrickson's.
YOUTH ACTING
Another duo of categories that could go any way possible. Bryan Craig and Kristen Alderson (General Hospital) are the current dark horses in Actor & Actress. Bryan Craig's submitted reel was some of the best acting I've ever seen on dramatic daytime television. Craig is currently starting to make headway, as is Alderson in Actress. Alderson could take home her second consecutive Emmy, winning off of both of her consecutive nominations. Kelley Missal is still the nostalgic favorite in the Younger Actress category. Her reel was just a bit short, although filled with some of her best acting. Remember Kim Matula never won, either.
