The Annual Daytime Emmy predictions, by I, here at SoapView, are coming to a close this year!
As you already know, comedic actress and media personality, Kathy Griffin will be hosting this year's ceremony, which will be live streaming online at daytimeemmys.net. I, for one, am very pleased with Griffin's appointment as host, as she a "big name" with a huge following (1.9 million Twitter followers, to be precise), so I feel she could attract more fans and viewers to watch. We'll see how over-the-top she ends up being. But for now, she's just could publicity for the genre and the ceremony, in general; which is and can be a great thing. Onto our final round...

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES
Last year, the hugest upset in of the past decade of Daytime Emmy ceremonies occurred, when NBC's Days of Our Lives took home the trophy for the first time in 38 years. One Life to Live, on ABC at the time, was the fan favorite to win, for both nostalgia and production purposes. This year, it appears DAYS [actually] does have the edge to win the biggest award of the night once again. However, do not count out an even BIGGER upset from TOLN's One Life to Live...
WHO WILL WIN: Days of our Lives (NBC)
UPSET: One Life to Live (TOLN)
Maybe watch out for B&B as well...

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES WRITING TEAM
This award could go any way possible, as proven in recent years. The current frontrunner is Days of Our Lives. However, don't be surprised if Bold and Beautiful comes through.
In fact, don't even consider B&B winning as an "upset".
You can just count out Y&R right. Now.

OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES DIRECTING TEAM
As you might already know, The Young and the Restless has won this category more than any other show, with currently a total of 13 wins.
Therefore, you can make that 14... However, One Life to Live 's first episode online, entitled "Brand New Start", was what TOLN submitted and was noted for its direction, cinematography and all technical touches. It wouldn't be much of a surprise to see One Life take it.

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR
Billy Miller shocked us last year with his win in the Supporting Actor category, somewhere he's been since 2010. This year, he submitted the scenes in which he grieved the death of his onscreen child, Delia. However, this year he took a risk by submitting in the Lead category, rightfully so. Don't expect him to lose; Miller has a straight, clear shot for his third Emmy pick-me-up (his second consecutive, too). Jason Thompson (General Hospital) 's reel was also an emotional heavyweight, saying goodbye to his onscreen fiance as his resumed dead wife returned from the dead. Thompson is going on his fourth consecutive nomination without a win, and he could very easily upset and defeat all four Young and Restless competing nominees, as Thompson is the only rival soap nominee and only nominee without a win in his category.
WHO WILL WIN: Billy Miller ("Billy Abbott" - The Young and the Restless, CBS)
UPSET: Jason Thomspon ("Dr. Patrick Drake" - General Hospital, ABC)

OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTRESS
YES. I CHOSE THIS PICTURE.
Ok, so first--confession time. I admit, I never really realized how astonishing Heather Tom really is until I watched her reel this year. I was VERY disappointed that she won last year, because her reel was simply not up to par with competing vets, Peggy McCay (Days of Our Lives) and Susan Flannery (B&B). However, her reel this year, which was her ragingly confronting Bill and Brooke about their extramarital affair. Tom's acting blew me way, and was stunning in every second. Then there is 2-time Emmy nominee, Eileen Davidson; I love her. I loved her reel, very different, combining both comedic and melodramatic elements. But, the Academy just loves Tom, and her reel was astounding. I just have to give it to her. SHALL Heather Tom win her 6th Daytime Emmy award next Sunday, this will make her tied with Erika Slezak (One Life to Live) for the most Daytime Emmy awards for an individual actress. Arianne Zucker and Katherine Lang's reels were solid, but just simply not as strong as Davidson and Tom. It's a tight race between the two for the statuette.
WHO WILL WIN: Heather Tom ("Katie Spencer" - The Bold and the Beautiful, CBS)
UPSET: Eileen Davidson ("Kristen DiMera" - Days of Our Lives, NBC)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR
The Supporting Actor race this year is comprised of two previous winners, one previous nominee, and then two never-before-nominated actors (you can just discard them now, if you please). Steve Burton, who is a previous Supporting Actor winner for General Hospital, submitted the same reel as his scene partner, and also nominee, Melissa Egan, which featured them debating over who is the father of their child. Scott Clifton, who at once deemed himself the "Susan Lucci of the Younger Actor Category" at the Emmys, even though he was only nominated four times before he actually won... (Yeah, let's not even comment on him saying that. I mean, really? Egotistical?). On another note, Clifton's reel was heavy on just him, himself, which could help him in the long run. Clifton's former General Hospital co-star, Bradford Anderson is on his fourth nomination with zero wins. Anderson is way overdue for recognition of his work, and this year appears to be just the right time. He exited the series last year to broaden his acting horizons, and this could be the final time he is nominated for such an award. I'm going with Anderson for a nostalgic win; his reel was completely centered on him, and his acting was filled with rage, crying, emotion, and yelling--exactly what the recipe is to win a Daytime Emmy Award.
WHO WILL WIN: Bradford Anderson ("Damian Spinelli" - General Hospital, ABC)
UPSET: Scott Clifton ("Liam Spencer" - The Bold and the Beautiful, CBS)

OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS
An elder, veteran soap opera actress dominates this category amongst four fierce, young nominees. The reel that stands out the most is 1981 Daytime Emmy Award winner for Supporting Actress Jane Elliot's. She is the ONLY actress in the category that does NOT cry and bawl in her reel. Instead, the veteran takes on love. She pours her character's heart out on finding a soulmate, and lucky Jane, she has 7-time Daytime Emmy winner, Anthony Geary, by her side in her 10 minute submission. Geary's presence could very well aid her in winning her second statuette. The main reason why her reel stands out, is because the main idea is love, relationships, feelings, and heart. Coming in from the back of the pack is Elizabeth Hendrickson (The Young and the Restless), who deals with the abrupt death of her child, who hit by a car. Now, flashback, all of you reading this now, to 2012. Rebecca Herbst (General Hospital) submitted in the Supporting category the scenes in which she deals with the also abrupt, very similar death of her child, who was also hit by a car. Herbst was considered a SHOE-IN for the win, by fans, editors, and experts alike. However, her co-star, Nancy Lee Grahn (General Hospital) ended up shockingly winning. Grahn's reel dealt with power and love, with zero crying or emotion. Grahn's powerful presence is what earned her the win, which is what could also happen with Jane Elliot and Elizabeth Hendrickson. Hendrickson's crying and mourning just may lose her the statuette, just as it similarly did to Becky Herbst a few years back. Let's not forget never-before nominee, Amelia Heinle (The Young and the Restless) who submitted a very powerful, prominent reel this year that earned her recognition for the very first time. Consider Heinle a dark horse.
WHO WILL WIN: Jane Elliot ("Tracy Quartermaine" - General Hospital, ABC)
UPSET: Elizabeth Hendrickson ("Chloe Mitchell" - The Young and the Restless, CBS)

OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTOR
The Younger Actor race includes five nominees this year, a rather lot for the category. Filled with three returning nominees, two somewhat-frontrunners this year have never been nominated before. Chandler Massey, playing one half of Days of Our Lives' first homosexual couple, has taken home this award for the past two years, and this year is his final nod possible in this category. Could Chandler take win his third consecutive Daytime Emmy award?
Now, mind you--I have watched every single acting reel this year. Every single one. this medium is dominated by talented, experienced veterans and also filled with "new-bies" that continue to surprise us with their growing acting chops. Bryan Craig's (General Hospital) submission reel in this category is arguably the best out of all actors, out of all categories this year. Craig is a first-time nominee and blew us away with his confrontation scene with his father, played by Emmy-winner Maurice Benard. Craig never once showed any sight of cooling down or letting go in his lengthy 14 minute reel.
...And the saddest part is that it seems I'm alone on the Bryan Craig bandwagon. All experts and fellow editors are going with Chandler Massey for his third straight win.
Chandler Massey (Days of our Lives) submitted a 3 minute scene of dealing with the birth of his daughter. Chandler is a very strong actor, and did not disappoint. However, I feel the short length of his reel will hurt him in the long run. Massey also has rather stronger competition in the category this year, unlike the past 2 years.
Chad Duell (General Hospital) has the longest reel out of all nominees, with a 16 minute scene. Duell is definitely a dark horse, having been an already two-time nominee without a win. Duell shared the scenes with both onscreen fathers, played by Maurice Benard and Sean Kanan.
Daniel Polo and Max Ehrich (The Young and the Restless) had strong submission, but Polo for sure has the edge over Ehrich. Ehrich is a previous nominee and Polo is a first time nominee.
WHO WILL WIN: Bryan Craig ("Morgan Corinthos" - General Hospital, ABC)
UPSET: Chandler Massey ("Will Horton" - Days of Our Lives, NBC)
OUTSTANDING YOUNGER ACTRESS
We all remember this.
Kelley Missal (One Life to Live) was one of the two actors from her age group on the original version of One Life to Live to move to the online season of new episodes and stories. Missal rocked us with performances unlike we had any seen from her before, as she was challenged with tackling a drug addiction/substance abuse storyline. The story earned her her first official recognition for her One Life work. Kelley's former ABC One Life to Live co-star and real-life best friend, Kristen Alderson (General Hospital) is the returning champ in this category, winning for her General Hospital role last year. Alderson, once again, submitted a prominently emotional reel regarding the death of her boyfriend and young child. Alderson just managed to sneak in a Starr Manning scene, as she is now a new character on GH. Alderson's reel was captivates with rage; maybe helping her win her second consecutive Emmy? BY THE WAY--Alderson and Missal played half-sisters, Dani and Starr Manning, on the ABC run of One Life to Live. Competing in the category is also first-time nominees, Kim Matula and Lindsey Godfrey (The Bold and the Beautiful). Godfrey's reel was the only comedic-heavy, which may help her's stand out. Kelley Missal winning the award would be a nice honor to the work put into to bringing back the beloved drama.
Kelley Missal winning would make her the first online-soap actress to win a major acting Daytime Emmy Award.
